Le Roc is situated in an ideal location for walking holidays. There are hundreds of kilometres of marked footpaths set amidst beautiful, varied landscapes, with many interesting geological features and an abundance of flora and fauna. The self guided option following the marked routes and reading the guide notes for each walk is the obvious choice. We will provide you with these notes and lend you the large scale maps of the area . Its more fun to discover these places for yourselves. |

To show you just one of the many walking sections of the Tourist Offices check this link to our local office at the Castelnau site and click on "telechargez la randofiche" to download a route. We will give you the card and a translation if you would like. Self catering also makes makes perfect sense. Our gites are well equipped with all the things you need. You can choose to eat out, or stay in depending on your mood and budget. We will gladly help you plan an agenda but being your own boss you can change it whenever you like and it saves you money. |

Locally, there are two Grandes Randonées (GRs), several Grandes Randonées de Pays (GRPs) and numerous circular trails. All the routes are carefully maintained by the local communes and are clearly marked both on the ground and with written notes. They are also shown on maps of the local area, which you are welcome to borrow from us. You won't come to dead ends or sections where the path disappears, this leaves you free to enjoy the gorgeous views without the worry of getting lost along the way! Having tried and tested many walks around Le Roc, we can recommend a variety of walking routes to suit your level of fitness. I have mentioned on other pages of this website that the roads and villages are quiet. On foot things are very quiet and often you will have the route to yourselves. |
Some paths sneak through villages and hamlets close to the houses and through the gardens. Walking through the vines is always special and evocative of France. The tracks that run up the side of the Averyon gorge offer great views. Steep valleys hide the ruins of mills made redundant when electricity arrived. I always like walking the old roads, never tarmacked, as they make you imagine life before the motorcar.
