General Interest

During the summer months there are many events going on, something for everyone. These events are great fun and excellent value.

Each village and town has it's Fete and much more. For example   in the village square in Castelnau there is an annual musical extravaganza:  Flamenco, Salsa,  Russian,   Classical, Irish, Pop or Jazz .

Other villages have firework displays on  the 14th  July (Bastille day) or  “Apero Concerts” (aperitif time - drinks & live music)     The village of Vaour has a week long festival of performing arts: theatre, music and street artists. Gaillac has an annual wine festival show casing the wine of local vigneron.

These are just a few of the events which go on locally every year.

A wealth of information about what is going on locally can be obtained from Tourist  Offices. Gaillac is a good place to start.

A visit to the Jardins des Martels  is a good trip out, the water gardens are spectacular with thousands of Lotus flower blooms. For the children there is a mini farm and a mini train.

The Jardin des Paradis is a little oasis in the bastide town of Cordes.

A near- by must see is the Chateau de Mauriac, a beautiful building in a lovley location. The owner is a prolific painter and has also saved the chateau  from becoming a ruin. In his phrase it is "re creation not restoration" but it’s spectacular fun.

The Chateau de Montricoux  houses some 140 works by the artist Marcel-Lenoir
(1872-1931) Its a fun mix of historic buildings, art and the decor and tastes of the 1920s! If you go look at the stained glass windows in the village church, see right.

For art lovers The  Ingres Museum in Montauban is worth considering especially if you combine it with a visit to the old city centre.

If you like medieval castles the one at Najac is a must to visit. It is the focus of a beautiful old village where time has stood still!

Gaillac Wine. Drive yourself around the suggested tour of the various wine areas. You can buy from any of the vineyards but if you are interested in the making process the wine Co-operative of  Labastide de Levis has a full presentation in English.

During the summer months there is always something going on. Every village and town has it's Fete

and much more. For example our village Square at Castelnau there is usually a dance evening, we have had Flamenco, Salsa and Russian, other nights its music, classical music or Irish, Pop Jazz etc. Other villages have a firework display on the 14 July (Bastille day) or an “Appero Concert” (aperitif time) perhaps Jazz, Latin or Spanish. The village of Vaour has a festival which has theatre, and street performers. Gaillac has the wine festival. I have only mentioned a few to give you the picture.

The Tourist offices have the information and the events are usually excellent value and good fun.
